Privacy Policy — Spectra UI & Stack Inspector

Spectra (“the Extension”) is a Chrome browser extension that helps you inspect colors, typography, technology stack, and SEO/meta information on websites you visit. This policy explains what information the Extension accesses and how it is handled.

Summary

• All inspection happens locally in your browser.
• We do not collect, sell, or transmit your browsing data to our servers.
• The Extension has no analytics and no accounts.

Information the Extension accesses

When you open Spectra on a page you are viewing, the Extension may read:

• DOM styles (colors, fonts, CSS variables)
• Page meta tags and document title
• Publicly visible scripts and framework signals on the page
• HTTP response headers for the main document (e.g. Server, X-Powered-By, CF-Ray)
• The hostname/URL of the active tab (shown in the popup UI)

This access occurs only when you interact with the Extension (open the popup or rescan). The Extension does not run in the background on pages you are not inspecting.

How information is stored

• Session cache: The latest scan result for each tab is stored in chrome.storage.session so the popup can reopen quickly. This data is cleared when the browser session ends.
• Theme preference: Your light/dark mode choice is saved in localStorage inside the Extension popup.

No scan data is synced to the cloud or shared with third parties by the Extension.

Third-party services

The Stack tab may load technology icons from Simple Icons via cdn.simpleicons.org. Those requests are standard image fetches and do not include page content from the site you are inspecting.

Permissions

• activeTab — inspect the page you are currently viewing
• scripting — inject a scanner script into the active tab on demand
• webRequest — read response headers for stack detection
• storage — cache scan results for the current browser session
• host permissions (<all_urls>) — allow inspection on any site you choose to analyze

Data sharing

We do not sell, rent, or trade user data. If you use the built-in export/download feature, the file is saved to your device by your browser — we do not receive a copy.

Children

The Extension is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when the Extension changes. The “Last updated” date at the top will reflect the latest version. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
